Text alerts for trusted contacts

FoFo Adventures can text a traveler's trusted contacts, usually family, if the traveler presses SOS in the app or misses a check-in they scheduled. Here's how someone is added, how they agree, and what they get.

How a traveler adds a trusted contact

In the app, on the Trusted contacts page, a traveler fills in their contact's name and mobile number. This is the form:

An email or a mobile number is enough; both is best.


With country code. Gets SOS by text once they reply YES.

We text them once to ask for their consent, and we send alerts only after they reply YES. Alerts are sent only when you press SOS or miss a scheduled check-in, so how often messages arrive varies. Message and data rates may apply. They can reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help at any time.

The one text they get first

Right after they're added, the contact gets one confirmation text. Nothing else is sent to them until they reply YES.

The alerts

Only two kinds of message, and only to contacts who replied YES. Links always go to adventure.fofo.dev, never through a link shortener.

SOS

FoFo Adventures SAFETY ALERT: Sam sent an SOS at 3:42 PM (MST) near Truth or Consequences, NM. Last location: https://adventure.fofo.dev/a/7Hq2xV9cL4mR8tWz1bYk3n. Try calling them; call 911 if you can't reach them. Reply STOP to opt out.

Missed check-in

FoFo Adventures: Sam missed a check-in due at 6:00 PM (MST). Their last check-in was 2:15 PM (MST) near Hatch, NM. You may want to reach out. Reply STOP to opt out.

Stopping, help, and removing a contact

Reply STOP at any time to opt out. This is the last text you get:

You're unsubscribed from FoFo Adventures alerts and won't get more texts. Reply START to resubscribe.

Reply HELP for help:

FoFo Adventures sends trip safety alerts to trusted contacts. Questions: adventure@fofo.dev. Reply STOP to opt out.

Reply START to opt back in.

A traveler can remove a contact in the app at any time. Their number is deleted then, or 30 days after the trip ends, whichever comes first. We keep a record of opt-outs so we never text someone who said STOP.
